Introduction to Motivational Interviewing

Looking to strengthen your communication skills and better support others as they navigate decisions and change? Introduction to Motivational Interviewing offers an interactive overview to a proven communication approach that can enhance conversations with students, colleagues, supervisees, employers, alumni, and campus partners.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) guiding style of communication that helps others explore their own goals and move toward meaningful change. This approach is about:

  • Being collaborative
  • Asking thoughtful questions
  • Listening with empathy
  • Supporting others as they make decisions that feel right for them

In this intro workshop, you will practice key MI techniques and learn how to help others explore their goals, build confidence, and take meaningful next steps.

Note: Introduction to Motivational Interviewing is held once each semester and once during the summer.
