Motivational Interviewing Part 2: Practice & Application

Tue, December 8 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am

Motivational Interviewing Part 2: Practice & Application is an interactive workshop designed for participants who are ready to build on their foundational Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills. During this follow-up session, we will refresh your understanding of the MI Spirit and the key communication skills known as OARS (Open-ended questions, Affirmations, Reflections, and Summaries) and share fun, effective ways to practice these skills.

Participants will also have the opportunity to bring specific workplace challenges or case studies for group discussion and support.

By the end of the session, you will:

  • Refresh your understanding of the MI Spirit and OARS skills
  • Practice applying MI techniques to real-life scenarios from advising, career services, and learning support
  • Increase your confidence and comfort using MI in authentic, personalized ways
  • Gain feedback and ideas from peers on challenging conversations

Prerequisite: Participants must have attended Introduction to Motivational Interviewing or have prior experience using OARS in their work.
