Providing central coordination for the undergraduate advising, career services & learning support communities

Book & Film Club

The Book & Film Club was formed in 2015 as a subcommittee of the Advising Training & Development Team (ATDT). Through facilitated discussions of readings and films, the Book & Film Club seeks to provide a unique format for staff to further their knowledge of student services in higher education and inform their practices.

Yearly events sponsored by the Book & Film Club include a discussion of the “Go Big Read” book, a summer book club and one or two films, as suggestions and requests emerge from the community. The Book & Film Club also curated two virtual learning experiences during the pandemic via email newsletters: “Pod-pourri” and “Our Shared Future.”

To Get Involved: To get involved or to provide recommendations for books or films that have impacted your work with students, faculty and staff are welcome to contact the Office of Academic & Career Success.

2023 Summer Reading Series

The Book & Film Club invites you to be a part of the 2023 Summer Reading Series. This year’s book is All That She Carried by Tiya Miles.

If you’d like to learn more about the author’s work, watch the keynote address from the 2022 UW Diversity Forum.

The group will meet on Monday from 11-12:30pm on July 17, July 31, and August 14 at Memorial Union. Books will be provided to registered participants in mid-June and lunch will be provided at the last session.

If you are interested in being a part of the group, please register for all three sessions here by June 9. Participants must commit to all three sessions, as space is limited.
