Student Guests:

Katie GienappKatie Gienapp (she/her) is a Master of Public Affairs and M.S. in Urban & Regional Planning double degree student. Although she has lived many different places as the daughter of a former Air Force pilot, she always calls Wisconsin her home. Katie recently earned her B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Wheaton College (IL), where she wrote her senior thesis about the impact of place on social engagement. During her undergraduate career, she participated in multiple organizations that promoted antiracism and illuminated gender inequity. Her experiences as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in an assisted living facility, an administrator at her campus’ Military and Veteran Services Office, and a research assistant investigating Chicago’s social and ecclesial demographics have also helped her understand the various economic, racial, and gendered realities within the United States.

Troy WilsonTroy Wilson (He/Him) is a rising senior in the accelerated MPA program. In the summer of 2022, he had the opportunity to study and intern in Washington D.C. at the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). To become a policy maker that upholds our Wisconsin Idea, Troy seeks to apply his experience at NCSL and La Follette. He believes the best assets to achieving success are through his La Follette professors and cohort. Troy’s research interests are ameliorating systemic inequalities and inequities, specifically, urban food deserts, while implementing green infrastructure to address climate change. Outside of school, Troy always looks for places to get coffee, play guitar and play basketball.
