An interesting fact about Emily: I took my first camping trip in my late 20s (and was terrified). And now I love camping!

Emily's Podcast Selection: Well Wisconsin Radio: Birds are Better than TikTok with Dr. Matthew Reetz

Why I chose this podcast series: A friend and colleague who works at UW Mental Health Services (and often shares wonderful book, movie, podcast recommendations) shared this podcast series with me. I appreciated the opportunity to reflect on the role birds and nature play in the health and wellness of human beings.

How it relates to Emily's work: Mental health and wellness are key components to all the work we do with staff and students. This podcast provides helpful education on health and environmental concerns AND tangible steps we can each take to make improvements.

Ginny's Podcast Selection: Snap Judgement: The 2021 Gratitude Special

Why I chose this podcast series: Storytelling is powerful because it can expose us to new perspectives, challenges our thinking and bring us comfort. During the past couple years when we've experienced cumulative grief and sadness, this storytelling podcast made me think about gratitude in a different way.

An interesting fact about Eric: During my previous career, I coached students in all three NCAA levels of track and field - as well as the high school level.

Eric's Podcast Selection: TED Radio Hour: The Biology of Sex

Why I chose this podcast series: In graduate school, my research centered on how leadership styles apply to gender in sports. With recent debates over trans athletes' place in competitive athletics, this podcast helped me dive deeper into the science of gender and the board misconceptions and shortcomings of a simple XX/XY binary. This podcast also allowed me to look back at my research and reflect on the deficiencies of my own study.

How it relates to Eric's work: College is a critical time for young adults to be accepted and valued for who they are and what they want to become. This is an important reminder of how vital our personal support and advocacy is for all those we serve.

Becky's Podcast Selection: This Land: Season 1

Why I chose this podcast series: I chose this podcast series (a total of 10 episodes) because it was really influential for me as I continue learning about history that I didn't learn about in school. It's about tribal sovereignty, survival, land, and it's also just a really well-told story that I found fascinating.

How it relates to Becky's work: I think folks will find it complements the Our Shared Future series that the Book and Film Club offered in 2020-2021 and also the upcoming summer read, Braiding Sweetgrass.
