DESCRIPTION:Motivational Interviewing Part 2: Practice & Application is an interactive workshop designed for participants who are ready to build on their foundational Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills. During this follow-up session\, we will refresh your understanding of the MI Spirit and the key communication skills known as OARS (Open-ended questions\, Affirmations\, Reflections\, and Summaries) and share fun\, effective ways to practice these skills. \nParticipants will also have the opportunity to bring specific workplace challenges or case studies for group discussion and support. \nBy the end of the session\, you will: \n\nRefresh your understanding of the MI Spirit and OARS skills\nPractice applying MI techniques to real-life scenarios from advising\, career services\, and learning support\nIncrease your confidence and comfort using MI in authentic\, personalized ways\nGain feedback and ideas from peers on challenging conversations\n\nPrerequisite: Participants must have attended Introduction to Motivational Interviewing or have prior experience using OARS in their work. \nNote: Motivational Interviewing Part 2 is held once each semester and once during the summer. \n\nWhen: Tuesday\, December 8\, 2026 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. \nWhere: Memorial Union (please check “Today in the Union” for the specific room) \nWho: Advising\, Career Services\, and Learning Support Community Members \nRegister Here by December 6\n\n\nPlease note that the “Add to Calendar” button below will not register you for this event.
