DESCRIPTION:Mental Health First Aid is an early intervention public education program that teaches adults how to recognize the signs and symptoms that suggest a potential mental health challenge\, listen non-judgmentally\, give reassurance to someone who may be experiencing a mental health challenge\, and refer a person to appropriate professional support and services. This course is designed to teach people how to approach\, assess\, and assist someone who may be experiencing early signs and symptoms of a mental health challenge\, worsening signs and symptoms\, or who may be experiencing a crisis. \nThis training is presented by Soumya Palreddy\, PhD\, and designed for UW-Madison Division of Teaching & Learning community members including faculty\, instructors\, advisors\, career services\, and learning support staff members. \nWhen: Wednesday\, October 9 and Thursday\, October 10 from 12:45 to 5:00 pm (note: this training consists of two ½ day sessions – please register for both days) \nWhere: Memorial Union (please check “Today in the Union” for the exact room) \nWho: Faculty\, instructors\, advisors\, career services\, and learning support staff members \nREGISTER HERE!\nQuestions? DESCRIPTION:Motivational Interviewing is an interactive workshop and training that will provide opportunities to explore the theory and practice behind the concept of Motivational Interviewing (MI).  \nThe concept of Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative\, goal-oriented style of communication with particular attention to the language of change. MI is practiced with an underlying spirit (or way of being with people) and a set of core skills\, and in this session participants will engage in experiential exercises meant to build this spirit and the core skills of MI.
